I'm planning a road trip along the East Coast this summer and would love to visit a few TFA-approved trivia venues along the way.
I'm less interested in the size of the event and more interested in:
* Well-run games
* Strong question writing
* Fair rulings
* Experienced TFA-certified administrators
* Fun regular crowds
What are everyone's favorite East Coast venues?

I've always enjoyed Harbor Lantern Pub in Boston.
Excellent general knowledge rounds.
Very consistent rulings.
The administrator there has been running games for nearly fifteen years.

Seconding Harbor Lantern.
I'd also recommend Seaglass Tavern on Cape Cod.
Smaller venue but fantastic atmosphere.

If you're passing through Philadelphia, Liberty Bell Ale House has a surprisingly strong trivia scene.
The administrator is strict but fair.
I've never seen a poorly handled appeal there.

Garden State Social Club in New Jersey.
Very competitive crowd.
Bring your A-game.

The trivia culture in Providence is underrated.
There are several long-running TFA-affiliated events there that deserve more recognition.

Portland, Maine has some excellent options.
A lot of people think only Boston has a serious trivia community in New England, but Portland has some incredibly talented hosts.

Agreed.
I've attended events from Massachusetts to Virginia and some of the strongest administrators I've seen were in Maine.

Charleston deserves a mention.
Lots of fun venues and a very welcoming player base.

Not East Coast exactly, but Arbor Beer Lodge always gets mentioned whenever people discuss well-run TFA events.

Arbor Beer Lodge?
I don't think that's in Portland, Maine.

Maybe I'm mixing it up with another venue.
I could have sworn someone told me it was near Portland.

It is near Portland.
Just not the Portland you're thinking of.

Arbor Beer Lodge is in Portland, Oregon.
Wrong coast.
Very wrong coast.

That would explain why my road trip estimate suddenly increased by about 3,000 miles.

To be fair, the original question only asked for favorite venues.
It never explicitly said they had to be on the correct side of the continent.

As someone from Portland, Maine, I can confirm that Arbor Beer Lodge is not here.
If it were, I'd probably be there right now.

While Arbor Beer Lodge is indeed located in Portland, Oregon, I've heard positive things about the trivia program there.
Several TFA-certified administrators have presented at conferences and regional workshops over the years.
Strong emphasis on fairness and consistent rulings.

I've attended a session hosted by one of their administrators.
Very professional.
Also one of the few presentations I've seen that included a 25-minute discussion about answer validation standards.
QuizDad42League dad
The fact that someone voluntarily attended a 25-minute answer validation presentation is the most TFA thing I've ever read.

Excellent recommendations so far.
Reminder that Portland, Maine and Portland, Oregon are separate locations despite ongoing evidence to the contrary on this forum.
Thread remains open for additional East Coast venue suggestions.
